Funny Things

I like funny things.

I like that when the world on your laptop pauses its existence

And needs a little extra time to think,

Your toes will still wiggle through the hole in your sock

And the breeze from your fan will still pepper kisses into your hair

No matter how much you just wish

It would think a little faster.

My mom doesn't like peach yogurt. I like that we don't carry peach yogurt in the fridge

And on the special occassion that we do,

I like that her soul seemed to whisper to mine

That I shouldn't like it either,

Even if it didn't mean to.

I like how trees grow from the sewers on Stephens Road

And I like listening to songs over and over

Until I know them like I would someone I love,

Even if that means I can't stand them anymore by the time I'm done.

Because I like that songs are people

And if you listen hard enough,

They'll tell you exactly what you're looking for.
