Do the Trees Feel?

Do the trees feel cold?
Do they shiver inside as the wind dances through their naked branches?
Do their buds, who have just opened their eyes,
Cling desperately through the changes in the flowered air?
Do the trees feel hot?
Do their leaves swelter and cry
As the sun casts scattered shadows onto the roots below?
Do the trees feel like us?
Do the tips of their fingers ever desire to touch a star Or a cloud?
Or perhaps to have a bird who may perch upon it
Carry it far, far away as it sings lullabies to the sky?
Do they ever wish that someone would chip at its trunk
Until it collapses with a splintered sigh?
It doesn't matter if I have the answer
Because I will always hug the trees
In case they feel cold.
