A Pause

And suddenly he paused, Making sure his words, although simple, were in perfect order.
And in that pause,
The world peered in through the window,
Awaiting a question with every silent sigh of the trees moving across the fogged glass
And every sprinkle of rain that had latched onto our clothes.
And as God held Its breath, I listened.
I heard every drop that knocked softly on my heart
And whispered kisses into my ear.
I did not grasp,
For I knew the words would come, once ready.
And so he asked, with wonderful precision,
"Are you happy?"
And in the melodious overtones of the singing sky,
I heard behind it,
"You are ready."
